Politics, such a divisive topic in
2016, isn’t it? Not only am I a proud Democrat, I am a Clinton supporter. I don’t
agree with people who still insist Hillary knew about Benghazi and neglected to
act (after all, she was grilled for hours by Republicans with no charges), she
doesn’t strike me as a neglectful or spiteful woman. Yeah, using a personal
server for email was dumb, but precedent was set by previous (Republican, by
the way) Secretaries of State who used personal email for their duties. The likely reason?
Phone/cell services weren’t as sophisticated and easy to use fifteen, even ten
years ago, and personal phones were more convenient for some. I read an article by an IT guy who explained details and if I can find the article again, I'll be sure to reference it.
I’m content Clinton wasn’t
treasonous in her personal cell/text use--- and numerous panels weren’t able to
convict her of anything other than carelessness (and we all know they tried).
Regardless of the final determinations on these issues, my Trump-voting friends
are staunch in their convictions there is more to the story and Hillary is a
murdering, treasonous fiend of epic proportions. There is no turning Republicans
to discussions regarding Trump’s short comings, the conversation always turns
from ‘what, specifically, they feel Trump will do better’, to an anti-Clinton
rant. No particulars, only why NOT Hillary. I’m more inclined to believe many Trump voters were voting against Clinton, rather than for a
better candidate.
Personally, I’m astounded Trump
made it thru the primaries—what does that say about the Republican Party’s loss
of control over both their message, and their party? Regardless of the primary results, Trump should have been dropped by the Republican party to possibly run as an
Independent, rather than roll over and show their collective yellow bellies and
select a misogynistic, xenophobic, narcissist to represent their Republican
interests. They turned their backs on their own convictions in order to back the popular Bachelor in that sitcom-election. I should remind people, three years prior to running as a
Republican, Trump was a Democrat. This flip-flop should have been their first
clue to Trump’s dedication to the Republican interests.
Democrats are wondering what they
did wrong to lose the election? How could the pollsters have gotten it so incorrect?
Where is the 2% lead Clinton should have had? Well, let me point out the
obvious—it’s in the 2.5 million lead Clinton has with the popular vote. Her
loss seems, to me, to be an issue of redistricting, which we know the
Republicans have been screwing with every 10 years when the census allows them
to group or spread out districts to mute the overwhelming Democratic minority
voters. The problem is so prevalent, there are some states who use independent
consultants to set districts rather than relying on the party in office for the
state. Some states have also manipulated the ballot rules to toss out votes,
they feel are questionable, by some subjective scale (Oh, this signature doesn’t
look right, instead of calling, like we do when the voter forgets to sign, let’s
ignore it).
I’ll admit, I’m taking some
comfort in the recounts initiated by Jill Stein… what message can we take from
the fact thousands of hopeful voters donated to the recount effort, and to an Independent, unrelated candidate? The maximum
donation was something like $2700, so we can be reasonably assured this is a
grassroots attempt to look for uncounted ballots and irregularities in the vote.
I also have a fantasy there will be an upset by the Electoral College with a
flood of faithless electors ejecting common sense into this debacle.
Am I over-reacting? Millions of
Trump voters will think so. But, I’m scared of what a Trump Show administration
will mean to the future of the US.
Trump will be sending a message
to other countries that American's don't honor our treaties and agreements, and
Americans don't support their allies. His impulsive (and ignorant) decisions
have far-reaching, serious ramifications. It's not just about the Trump Show
playing at the White House (or, in his case, the TrumPenthouse), it's about
the severe damage his ego will cause to policies and alliances we've built over the
past hundred years.
I am not only broken-hearted that
so many people believe Trump was the lesser of two evils, but many people
actually supported Trump’s warped views about immigrants, minorities, and race.
I feel helpless in the face of overwhelming evil, and fear for the millions of
people who have already felt the violence and hatred of racists who have
crawled out from under their rocks, emboldened by the new administration.
I
look to the Democrats and wonder why their voices have been absent during this
terrible time.
In voting for Trump, the lunatics
have truly taken over the asylum. One
of my favorite songs (since mid-1980's) ... pay special attention to lyrics-- especially
the part about the cowboy (America) going nuclear, and the madman
flipping the switch. Fun Boy Three- Lunatics Have Taken Over the Asylum

Lovely :) couldn't have said it better myself.
